Loler Testing

LOLER Testing (Visual and Weight Tests)

Loler Testing

All lifting equipment such as patient hoists and stand-aids must by law be serviced and weight tested on an annual basis. We have trained testers who can perform weight tests and visual tests on your hoists and stand aids. Our charge for an annual contract is £85.00 per item.  Please note that we only cover South and West Yorkshire, Derbyshire and the East Midlands.

Our Loler Testing Includes:

  • Annual service
  • Annual weight check
  • Interim visual inspection
  • Any equipment requiring repair will be advised and costs outlined prior to any work.
  • All work carried out on site where possible
  • Courtesy equipment is made available where possible while your item is being repaired.

All work is carried out to LOLER certification and certificated as such. All prices exclude VAT.

What is LOLER?

LOLER brought together several pre-existing sets of legal requirements relating to lifting gear, combining them into a single, co-ordinated statutory inspection regime. LOLER effectively incorporates the Construction (Lifting Operations) Regulations 1961, the Lifting Plant and Equipment (Records of Test and Examination) Regulations 1992 and aspects of the Docks Regulations 1988.

What is the purpose of LOLER?

LOLER’s principal purpose is to safeguard those operating or being in the proximity of any lifting equipment used in a working environment. In today’s increasingly litigious society, employers must safeguard themselves from potential legal action resulting from the use of faulty, unsuitable or poorly maintained equipment. If they do not, any resulting penalties may be severe. We can advise further on examination and inspection criteria and the methods used to carry out the mandatory LOLER inspections.

LOLER stands for Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations. Simply put, a Thorough Examination or LOLER is a bit like a car’s MOT.

It should be noted that although LOLER is the principal safeguarding mechanism relating to lifting equipment, such equipment may also be subject to the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER), an explanation of which is beyond the scope of this guide.

How does LOLER work?

LOLER requires that any lifting equipment used or provided in a working environment must be:

  • sufficiently robust and well-designed and fit for purpose to lift its specified load.
  • installed and located in such a way as to minimise potential risks to health and safety. This would include, for example, any danger from falling objects or the accidental contact of lifting equipment with workers
  • subjected to regular and ongoing inspection and thorough examination by suitably trained and qualified personnel
  • adequately and clearly marked with sufficient information to ensure the safe and correct use of the equipment.
